These are simple, affordable, square-toe boots that have become popular, especially among the college-age crowd, in 2014. These are Chippewa model number 29328.
These USA-made boots are made of all leather and have a black foot and brown shaft. They have a square toe, are 12 inches (30cm) tall with a low scallop at the top of the shaft. Boot pulls on either side of the shaft make them easy to pull on.
The Vibram sole is rather thick -- one-half inch (0.7cm), with a short 1-inch (2.5cm) block heel. The sole of this boot makes them suitable to wear when riding my motorcycle. The thicker sole and low heel also make these boots very comfortable to walk in. That's probably while college students like them, because the boots are easier to walk in and also look much more masculine than sneakers or worse, flip-flops.
I got these boots on a "back-to-school" sale on a "buy one pair, get one pair free" sale. They are a good value for the money. (The matching BOGO pair of boots is here on this website.

Thick Vibram rubber sole provides moderate traction
This is how these boots are worn, with pants over them.
No one wears short boots like these with pants tucked into them.
Images above were taken just to show what the boots look like.
These boots will work also as motorcycle boots
I like these boots!
