I bought these Bates Boots in the early '90s through the Quartermaster Catalog. They looked impressive when I saw some military guys all spit-shined in their uniforms with boots like these. I put together a uniform appearance that goes particularly well with these boots. They were 11" tall, have side zippers with a snap-closure to cover the head of the zipper. They are made of patent leather.
Unfortunately, the soles crumbled completely, since apparently the resins that held the sole together aged. As a result, I had to dispose of the boots because when the soles fell off, the boots fell apart. [Thus, these are "phantom" members of my boot collection].
