Bates "Floataway"
Paratrooper Parade Boots

I bought these Bates "Floataway Parade Boots" in the early '90s from the Quartermaster Company's catalog. (The boots are no longer made.) The boots looked impressive when I saw some military guys wearing boots like these in a parade. I put together a uniform appearance that goes particularly well with these boots.

They were 11" tall, had side zippers with a snap-closure to cover the head of the zipper. They were made of patent leather.

Unfortunately, the soles crumbled completely, since the resins that held the sole together decomposed with age. As a result, I had to dispose of the boots because when the soles fell off, the boots fell apart. [Thus, these are "phantom" members of my boot collection].
