I bought these boots on sale in August, 2012. They are model J3040 and have a black Melo-Veal foot (which shines well) and cowhide shaft. I also like the taller shaft at 12 inches rather than typical ropers which are usually 10 inches.
These boots have a round toe, but have a heel higher than typical ropers, at 1-9/16 inches. The sole is a Vibram® 700 durable sole with a chevron pattern. This sole provides better traction on wet pavement than leather-soled boots, and are suitable to wear if I ride my Harley as transportation to get to business meetings where dress clothes (including "dressier" boots) are required.
The boots are constructed with a single-stitched welt and are made in the USA.
This is how these boots are usually worn -- with pants over them.
No one wears pants tucked into roper boots.
