Bates Patrol Boots

These patrol boots are made by the Bates Footwear Company of Rockford, Michigan, USA. Apparently Bates does not make tall patrol boots like these any more. I bought them on an eBay auction from IslandDeals, who told me that they originated from a seller who lives close to me, but who I do not know.

These boots are 17" tall and are made of all leather. The leather is about 4 - 5oz, which is rather thin, but that makes them fairly light-weight. They have a seam on the front and back of the shaft (which, in my opinion, is unsightly.) The boots also have a large leather flap on the inside leg of the boot shaft, under which is hidden an expansion band. The boots also adjust for fit of the shaft with laces. The instep has laces in the bal-laced style. The sole is neoprene, and offers rather poor traction compared with Vibram mini-lug or big-lug soles as I have on some of my other patrol boots.
