I bought my first pair of these Chippewa Firefighter Boots (model 27422 aka "Ruttman") in October, 2007, and several more pairs since (see list and links below.)
Before these boots, I wore cheap knock-off station boots when pulling volunteer duty at my local Fire Department. These boots are much, much better than any other station boots I have ever worn during all my years of volunteer service dating back to 1982.
The boots are completely leather lined, have an EPS steel toe, ANSI 75 steel bottom plate, Kush-N-Kollar, and Vibram lug sole. They are about 9 inches tall. (The sole is 1.25 inches and the boot from the top of the heel to the top of the shaft is 8 inches.)
The unique design feature of these boots is the center zipper in the front, which makes them easy to pull on and take off. The zipper insert has two side laces that when adjusted once, don't need to be fooled with again.
These boots are my first choice to wear when I ride my Harley because they are so comfortable. Despite the leather lining, they don't get hot. I have worn them for very long days when riding my bike and my feet never hurt. This is why they are highly recommended on my Complete Guide to Motorcycle Boots.
I like these boots better than their All American Boot cousins or their Thorogood cousins because the Chippewa boots are more comfortable for all-day wear, especially when walking or standing is involved. Also, the Chips are much better made of higher quality materials and construction compared with anything from Thorogood.
